Getting there
The best way to get to Chiang Mai is by plane, with airlines such as Air Asia , Thai Smile Airways or Bangkok Airways . Air Asia is the cheapest airline and Bangkok Airways the most expensive. The relatively new Thai Smile Airways , which is a subsidiary of Thai Airways International , offers a good standard.
A very relaxed and inexpensive option is to travel first class on the night train.
Train #9 departs Bangkok at 18:40 and arrives in Chiang Mai at 07:15. This saves you a night in the hotel.
