The special thing about Chiang Mai is the old town, which is surrounded by a square canal. Within the city center there are Thailand's most beautiful temple complexes such as B. Phra Sing (see on the map in the west of the city center).\r\n
Songkran, the Thai New Year in April, has an incredible water fight in Chiang Mai. The Thais and tourists spray each other with water pistols and buckets. The best way to celebrate Songkran is in Chiang Mai.\r\n

There is a lot to discover in the Chiang Mai area, such as Doi Inthanon National Park, the highest mountain in Thailand. Another absolute highlight is the Doi Suthep hill, which is 12 km outside the center and offers a great view of the city.\r\n

Getting there <\/h3>\r\n

The best way to get to Chiang Mai is by plane, with airlines such as Air Asia<\/em> , Thai Smile Airways<\/em> or Bangkok Airways<\/em> . Air Asia<\/em> is the cheapest airline and Bangkok Airways<\/em> the most expensive. The relatively new Thai Smile Airways<\/em> , which is a subsidiary of Thai Airways International<\/em> , offers a good standard. <\/p>\r\n

However, we recommend two to three nights together in Bangkok before the onward journey to Chiang Mai begins. With the night train you can get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in a very relaxed and cheap way.
